Tommy, age 1

Meet Tommy ... a beautiful male Husky mix of 1 year old and 50 lbs. This boy was seen being dumped in Tulsa, with a broken leg. Poor guy. The finder wrapped his leg with some ace bandage and another neighbor posted him asking for help! Tommy had a mid-shaft humeral fracture that was completely displaced. On June 12, Dr. Dennis Henson, with some assistance from Dr. Jeff Owens and his team at Elm Creek Animal Hospital, performed surgery to repair the leg. Dr. Henson said it was an older break, not fresh, and it was beginning to heal on its own; had we waited any longer, we probably would have had to amputate the leg.  Tommy is on 6-8 weeks of post-operative restriction, leash walk only.

The surgery alone is expensive as is his basic vet care. Thankfully, he is heartworm negative, and Dr. Henson neutered him, so he is done with surgery! This guy will need a diligent and qualified foster. If you have ever fostered a medical patient before, please contact Amy at amyh@rescuednready.com or call at 918-688-0755. You must have dog experience, preferably some post operative care experience, a privacy fence and no children under the age of 12 in the home. A strict and confined healing process is critical to his successful recovery.

Don't worry Tommy, we will get this all worked out and find you a home where you are loved. No one will ever dump you again. Promise. Hang in there buddy ... we are all rootin' for ya!

UPDATE July 3:   Tommy is doing great!  He has at least 3 more weeks of leash walking .... ho hum ... he is bored and is ready to get out of boarding!  This boy will make a great family pet, so please keep an eye on him. If you are a savvy dog owner and would consider fostering him in a controlled environment, please contact Amy at  amyh@rescuednready.com.
